Meet our newest chef instructor: Isabelle Lapin!
Cuisine: French-Jewish
Chef Isabelle Lapin’s love of cooking started at an early age while watching her mother cook at the stove in their Paris apartment. A 20-year detour through caring for her five children has brought her back to cooking healthy, seasonal, tasty and colorful food.
While studying statistics at the Sorbonne University in Paris, she learned how to bake. It became her escape to her stressful coursework. She was inspired to create her own vegetarian and non-dairy recipes by her own kosher diet, as well as the influences of food from the different countries and cultures she lived in (the Savoie, Alpes region, St. Thomas USVI, Paris, New York).
Having studied in Paris at Lenôtre, and in New York at Institute of Culinary Education and the Natural Gourmet Institute, Chef Isabelle Lapin creates innovative French pastries that cater to all eating preferences. She gained experience working in restaurants and bakeries in Manhattan and Brooklyn. She also taught cooking and baking classes at the 92nd street Y and the Center for Kosher Culinary Art. She owns her company (www.lacakelady.com) where she not only sells vegetarian and gluten-free French style pastries but she also teaches private baking and cooking classes.
