This is a quick, easy, and delicious traditional Chinese recipe. If you don’t have a wok you can use a large skillet. If using a skillet be sure to keep the pan over medium-high to high heat throughout the cooking process, you may also need to add a couple additional minutes of cooking time to this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1 box regular tofu, cut into bite-sized pieces (extra firm works also)
  • 3 cloves garlic, smashed or finely chopped
  • 1 scallion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 tsp hot chili garlic sauce
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup chicken broth
  • cooking oil (canola, peanut, vegetable, etc.)
  • sesame oil to taste (approx. 1/2 tsp)

Method

Step 1

Heat wok. When hot, add two teaspoons of cooking oil.

Step 2

Add tofu. On medium heat, cook until the cubes are golden brown on the outside. Remove from wok and drain.

Step 3

Add another two teaspoons of oil. Add garlic and pork.

Step 4

Simmer for 7-8 minutes until all the contents are hot and the sauce has thickened.

Step 5

Adjust seasoning as desired. Add a few drops of sesame oil. Sprinkle scallions on top and serve over rice.
